Magic Mike trailer arrives

MagicMike.jpgSteven Soderbergh's latest film has a trailer, Magic Mike written by Reid Carolin tells the story of a male stripper and his desire to be something more, a story inspired by the real life of Tatum. The trailer has some great moments between the leads in it, even if it does feel a little fractured and maybe a little familiar in places.

The film stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Riley Keough, Cody Horn and Olivia Munn and those first few names are definitely doing some stripping. I wonder who the audience for this will be.

The story for Magic Mike is a little more than I've described it above, it's not just about the stripper's desire to be something more, working with his hands and creating unique artistic furniture, but also how he is mentoring a new, young stripper who has joined the circuit and how he is teaching him everything he knows from how to pickup women and make money to how to dance.

A dramatic comedy set in the world of male strippers, "Magic Mike" is directed by Academy Award(R)-winning director Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic") and stars Channing Tatum in a story inspired by his real life. The film follows Mike (Tatum) as he takes a young dancer called The Kid (Alex Pettyfer) under his wing and schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money.

At times it looks a little shallow and might make you think solely of the male stripper side of things but you have to remember that this is a Steven Soderbergh film so you know there's going to be a lot more to gain from it. One of the main aspects that does come across in the trailer is the natural feel and the ease of the dialogue and the lead actors together.

In most of the scenes where Channing Tatum and Cody Horn are together it really does feel as though the camera has been sneakily put on them and they are genuinely having a conversation. I love that feel and that's the part that's selling me on the film at the moment because the story the trailer is telling so far is one I've seen before, just not with strippers.

You can see the trailer for Magic Mike over at Apple Trailers, just watch those opening moves in the first dance.

Talking films are a very interesting invention, but I do not believe that they will remain long in fashion.
