The Grandmaster trailer does it a terrible injustice
Here's a sign of how Hollywood can ruin a potentially good trailer. They've taken what could be a very strong film with The Grandmaster from Wong Kar-wai and starring Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi and added a terrible voice over, a poor cut and some ill-fitting music.
It just doesn't work, not as a trailer for an action film, a martial arts one, or anything really. Let's hope there's a better cut somewhere that might just tell us the story and show us what the film is going to be about.
Maybe I'm being a little harsh for The Grandmaster trailer but it doesn't tell much of a story or really sell the film well, even if they were just trying to sell it on the action.
The Weinstein Co. are behind the release of The Grandmaster which tells the story of the martial artist Ip Man. Tony Leung, Zhang Ziyi and Cung Le star in the film and it comes from the director Wong Kar-wai who also wrote the film. He previously directed films such as My Blueberry Nights, 2046 and In the Mood for Love, all of which he also wrote.
Here's the very poor trailer that comes through and Deadline. It's not looking good is it?
