Fassbender playing Macbeth
There's going to be another version of Macbeth on the big screen and if it was anything other than a film based on a famous play there would be screams of "not another remake" and so on, but because it's a play it's acceptable, it's accepted. It's what happens in the theatre so why not on screen?
The immediate draw for this version is the fact that a certain Michael Fassbender is set to play the lead character, but the less shouted about but just as equally exciting news is who is behind the new film production.
Michael Fassbender is set to play the lead, and that's an exciting prospect. There's no doubt that Fassbender knows the meaning of the word diversification and he's doing just that. It's not as though he doesn't have the talent to back that up either is it?
Behind the production is the company that produced Shame (Filmstalker review) and The King's Speech and Screen Daily through The Guardian tell us that the director is set to be Justin Kurzel who recently directed Snowtown.
Now that sounds interesting. There's a whole heap of talent behind that film and judging from those titles I would suspect they're going to get a great writer involved and the film will be stylish and gritty, but how will it set itself apart from all the other Macbeth's that have been before? Will they modernise it? I think there's a fair chance of that happening.
There is no other word about casting or where it will be filmed, personally I do hope they come to Scotland to do it. Who will play Lady Macbeth?
