A Hijacking (Kapringen) trailer, a powerful film

AHijacking.jpgThere haven’t been many films that have explored the area of modern day pirates but a couple are on their way.

A Hijacking (Kapringen) is a film that looks at it from the point of view of those taken aboard a ship and held for ransom and from those at home in the company negotiating for their return, and the trailer looks as strong as the film.

What’s interesting about A Hijacking (Kapringen) is the way that it looks at the events and how it is portrayed. There’s a strong feeling of reality to it, just listen to the negotiator who sounds like he might actually be real and not an actor, but really it’s about the drawn out negotiations which mirror the real life hijackings we hear about from time to time.

Here’s the plot for A Hijacking (Kapringen):

The cargo ship MV Rozen is heading for harbor when it is hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean. Amongst the men on board are the ship's cook Mikkel and the engineer Jan, who along with the rest of the seamen are taken hostage in a cynical game of life and death. With the demand for a ransom of millions of dollars a psychological drama unfolds between the CEO of the shipping company and the Somali pirates.

Now here’s the powerful trailer which is over at Apple Trailers and through TrailerAddict for the film. You really should try to see this when it’s released in the UK next week and a limited release in the US in June:

The film is written and directed by Tobias Lindholm who you might know wrote the recent film The Hunt and also on the first Borgen television series. It also stars actors Pilou Asbæk and Søren Malling whom you might recognise from Borgen as well.
