The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones new trailer
While the new trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones may look very similar to the first one, at least to begin with anyway, there's something rather different about this cut and that's the fact that we get much more depth to the story.
It does remind me of a darker Buffy brought to film, but despite that rather crude comparison the story and the film look rather enticing. This isn't some fluffy, teen angst film, at least not in this trailer anyway.
Here's the blurb for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones film:
Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.
The Mortal Instruments is a six novel series, of which five are already written, and the author Cassandra Clare has already written a series of prequels prefaced The Infernal Devices and has announced sequels whose titles will be prefaced with The Dark Artifices. It's going to be a series that could run and run so you can see why there's talent and money being put into the first film as well as an attempt to make it more than another Twilf film.
Mortal Instruments: City of Bones stars some strong names including Lily Collins, Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jared Harris, Kevin Durand and Kevin Zegers, a good cast indeed.
Could this do well and turn into a lucrative series? The books certainly suggest it could as they've been doing rather well themselves.
