Smith's survive in After Earth trailer

AfterEarth.jpgWill Smith doesn't seem to be taking the lead in the trailer for After Earth, although he is in the voiceover it's really Jaden Smith that has stepped to the fore and is up against the perils of a planet where all the creatures are out to destroy him.

The trailer does look good and while people are connecting this with Oblivion I don't see that they are that similar apart from on the surface of the story. To me though this does just seem to be on the surface and one trailer suggests a much richer storyline than the other.

Watching the trailer for After Earth I'd say that while it looks strong and will present a powerful story it's Oblivion that seems to carry the richer storyline and the one filled with the more action, but then there's a lot to be said for the way the After Earth trailer plays out, some might have said that Oblivion has shown too much already.

Anyway, none of this matters because we're here to watch the trailer for After Earth, the new film from M. Night Shyamalan starring Will Smith and Jaden Smith.

Here's the blurb for the film:

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

Now here's the trailer for After Earth through TrailerAddict which looks really good and carries a great deal of dramatic weight to it, not least supplied by Smith senior:
