Paramount on World War Z, G.I. Joe 2, Baywatch, Existence 2.0, and more...
There's a document been released online that is reported to be an internal Paramount memo about some of the projects they are actively working on, however with a document that keeps using the informal “they” to refer to the studio, you can tell it's not an internal memo, something that Paramount has confirmed.

While they say that some of the document is true and some isn't, it does give some interesting information on a few projects, including World War Z, G.I. Joe 2, What Men Want, Baywatch, Existence 2.0, Max Steel, Nevada Smith, Hasbro Factory, Jack Ryan, Triple Frontier and Dunderheads. The document can be seen at The Wrap through ShockTillYouDrop.

Snipes continues in Havana Heat...
Wesley Snipes is to star in Havana Heat according to Variety alongside Joey Lawrence, Michael Dudikoff, mixed martial arts fighter Heath Herring, Zulay Henao, Lorena Rincon, Raul Julia Jr., and Nicholas Brown. The film tells the story of a Homeland Security agent based at Guantanomo who is murdered while undercover in Havana.

Dracula: Year Zero in Australia with Worthington...
Alex ProyasDracula: Year Zero, an un-sanitised version of a vampire story, is to film later this year in Australia according to Encore through JoBlo. Oh, and Sam Worthington is to star in the film.

Sarsgaard Maggie Gyllenhaal in Bill Monroe biographical film...
Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal, real life husband and wife, are to star in the biographical film of bluegrass legend Bill Monroe. She said of the film through Screencave and The Playlist:

"Bill Monroe, who invented bluegrass music had a kind of Sid and Nancy style affair with this woman Bessie Lee Mauldin throughout his life and T-Bone Burnett’s going to do the music and Callie Khouri who wrote 'Thelma & Louise' wrote the script so we’re going to do that together..."

Bousman's 1 cult horror...
Darren Lynn Bousman is to direct a horror thriller called 11 11 11 according to The Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision through ShockTillYouDrop. The film is said to be inspired by the real life organisation that believes the recurrence of the numbers 11:11 are of some spiritual significance and link to...ermm...spirit guardians, because they love their maths. Apparently the film will centre on November 11th, 2011, when all eleven gates of heaven will open for forty-nine minutes. What? Not eleven?

German Tom Sawyer...
German director Hermine Huntgeburth is to adapt Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer for a German audience. Brilliant, good on him. I do like when foreign film markets take a Western property and adapt it, doing what Hollywood do all the time, and it's even better when it turns out really good too!

There's another couple on the go at the moment with Jack London's The Sea Wolf and Moby Dick adaptations happening in Germany.

This one is still in the same setting though as Variety reports that Germany and Romania are standing in for the Mississippi River countryside. I would have preferred if they'd uprooted the story entirely to Europe though. Benno Fuermann and Heike Makatsch will star as Injun Joe and Aunt Polly, respectively and they've yet to find their Tom Sawyer.

Japanese Jaws...
Of course the twist here is that they viciously harpoon the animal to death and eat him, oh no it'll be that they slice off the fins, leave it to bleed to death unable to swim, and make shark fin soup. According to Cinematical, Jaws in Japan is coming and it's terrorising beautiful girls at a beach.

Tripp Bowden biographical golf film...
The memoirs of Tripp Bowden are to be adapted into a film by writer Mark Gibson Variety reports. The story follows the friendship between Bowden and Freddie Bennett who was the Caddy Master at Augusta National Golf Course, a friendship beginning when Bowden was just ten years old. The story goes full circle as he becomes a pro golfer but struggles later on in his life and comes back to his old friend, takes up a caddying job at Augusta, and returns to the real value of the game. Sounds like a perfect film already.

Aja directing Cobra—The Space Pirate...
Director Alexandre Aja is going to direct Cobra—The Space Pirate next. It's a Japanese manga which was adapted for a cartoon series which also found fame in Europe and was a big part of Aja's youth. According to Deadline Hollywood Daily he sees the story as a live action franchise and is writing the script with Gregory Levasseur.

Imagine Pirates of the Caribbean in space, and Cobra is one notorious rogue pirate who refuses to align with the United Galaxies or the Pirates Guild, and so everyone is after him. He keeps his identity secret to try and avoid being exiled completely, and being caught. He teams up with a bounty hunter called Jane who is trying to find her sisters and uncover the secrets of a treasure map they have tattooed on their backs, a map to the treasure of Mars.

I'd never heard of the character or series, but apparently it was huge, particularly in book form. Now Aja is talking about bringing it to the big screen in 3D.
