Last Man Standing: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter the film

LastManStanding.jpg Last Man Standing: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter is a new book from Heavy Metal Publishing that has just been picked up to be made into a film. It has an interesting concept with some fantastic artwork, although it's not actually available to buy as yet.

The hardcover book is due out soon, this will show off some of the background and art of the graphic novel series before it begins, and already it's being picked up for a film.

The official blurb for the hardcover book from the publishers Heavy Metal goes:

LMS: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter is your first glimpse into the LMS graphic novel series. It is a character bible and prologue book that introduces you to Gabriel, the hero of our story, as he personally unravels to his audience the intricacies of his world, set in a time-transcending and parallel universe that is inhabited by a roster of colorful and deadly characters. Join Gabriel in his quest for revenge and the journey he will embark on by traveling through more than 200 pages of history, character art, bios, and other forms of pleasure and pain.

The article in the The Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision that tells us Paramount have won the bidding for the rights also has more on the plot:

...a bounty hunter named Gabriel, created by a weapons organization to be part of its army of Paladins, 'a soldier with the talent of 500 soldiers.' After being framed and sent to prison, he escapes and enters the world of New Amerika, filled with genetically enhanced shark-men, ninjas and burlesque girls, as he tries to unravel the reason behind his set-up.

Then there's the artwork, some of which you can see over on Dan Luvisi's site, he's a digital concept artist working in film, video games and comic books, so he'll be ideally suited to work on translating the look and feel of the book and the graphic novel series to film, and some of which you can see on the official LMS site.

Last Man Standing: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter, or LMS for short, has yet to be released, even this teaser book itself, for it suffered a problem with the printing and had to be reprinted, hence the delay, and the graphic novel won't appear until after the book I believe, so will the film be first?

I think what we might see is what has happened with Mark Millar's stories, the scriptwriter takes the concept and the story in the author's head to date and builds on that, and we'll see the two properties take different routes partway through the story.

It does sound an interesting story, although I am thinking that there are shades of Wanted (Filmstalker review) and Equilibrium, as well as other films like DOA, it's definitely an interesting picture being painted in the blurb and it will stand its own ground that's for sure.

There aren't details on how the film is going to pan out, how it's going to look, or anything more on it, but I'm interested.

I have read this Killbook of a Bounty Hunter [Javascript link removed], but I wonder if this will actually turn out to be a good film!

What did you think of the novel, or was that just a blatant advert/spam with the javascript link included?
