The Green Hornet begins again?

TheGreenHornet.jpgThe Green Hornet is a film project that has been going on and on for some time now. Various stars have been attached, and the latest name is Seth Rogen of Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin fame.

Rogen is working on a deal to write, direct and quite possibly star in, Green Hornet. He would be following a list of high profile names attached to the project in some way or another.

The Green Hornet was initially a radio series which then became a comic book (now that's an original way to do things!), then a film and a TV series. The TV series is perhaps the most remembered with Bruce Lee playing the hero's sidekick Kato.

I think it's fair to say that if Variety is right and Seth Rogen is taking up this project then it's going to be an all out comedy. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, but there is a strong dramatic story in there too.

If I remember rightly the story sees a young, rich newspaper publisher fighting crime by night. The District Attorney, his secretary and his valet are the only ones who know who he really is. His valet is vowed to protect his life after he saved his own in the past.

The Kato character was taken into the excellent Pink Panther film series in a comedy role, and it could well be this style of relationship that a comedy version would go for. The sidekick would be the one doing all the work and everything right while the bumbling lead of Green Hornet takes the limelight.

How do you see this going with Rogen in charge?
